After manual wakeup (the announcement system was broken) we had a rather slow checking out. Every check-in was followed by lots of waiting and milling. Eventually we got to Guayaquil and the Hotel Oro Verde. I roomed with Will Brown, who had to leave about 2am for his flight.

I ventured into the city twice, once with Louise and ? to an ATM, second time all the way to their riverwalk with Mary Lea, Rashmika, ?, Jim, Ken, Dennis, and one of the guides. Rode back in a taxi, very cheap.

Had dinner at the hotel with big group. Prices were very reasonable, food was excellent, service rather slow. Ken, Peter, some others got fussy about the slowness, but I thoroughly enjoyed an excellent large meal. Had an appetizer with several triangular cake-things called empeñadas and tamales. I had squid in garlic mushroom sauce and shrimp ceveche (raw but marinated in lime juice). both were excellent. Shared pasta and all with Judy Jones. Pasta was great, too.

Early rise for a good breakfast before a long, slow trip home.

If you've made it this long, here's another (much shorter) page by Will Brown called My Galapagos Vacation
