After retracing our way back into town, we wandered around a bit near Piazza Venezia, saw the cats, and then headed southwest by the Jewish Synagogue, and across the Ponte Fabricio, across Isla Tibernia (dedicated to healing via various gods and Saints for about 3000 years), across Ponte Cestio to Trastevere, just in time for a lovely sunset. This was the day the Welsh national Rugby team played Italy. There was a nice group of Welsh folks staying in the hotel with us, evening offering us tickets to the game, though I couldn't talk anyone into going. As we stopped in a restaurant for dinner, the game was over. A group of Welshmen were already in their cups there. They sang a couple of songs to Dee Dee before they left. Next, a group of about 30-40 came in. It turned out to be the London Welsh Men's Choir with friends. They serenaded us with beautiful a capella harmonies through the rest of dinner. Perhaps the high point of the trip for me. |

Coast from the Train |
Next morning, Dee Dee and I headed to Pisa by train. It was Dee Dee's birthday! We had a lovely trip up the coast. In Pisa we bumped into a lady Dee Dee knew from when she ran her shoe store in South Carolina. We walked by her and her family in a little cafe on a street in the town. It was a late train ride home. |
